Child allowance

Child allowance is a cash benefit received by a parent or other person defined by the Act for the purpose of supporting and upbringing of a child.
The right to a child allowance is acquired and realised depending on the number of household members, the number of children and the amount of total income of household members of the beneficiary, in accordance with other conditions defined by the Act.
The right to a child allowance can be realised if the average monthly income per member of your household in the previous calendar year does not exceed 50 percent of the budget base.
The budget base for 2018 amounts to HRK 3,326.00. Income census (50% of the budget base) amounts to HRK 1,663.00.
The right to a child allowance is realised through the Croatian pension Insurance Institute (HZMO).

Allowance for a child with health impairment
In case of a child with health impairment, the beneficiary is entitled to a child allowance increased by 25% in relation to child allowance defined by the income census (HRK 374.18, HRK 311.81 or HRK 249.45). The right to child allowance for a child with health impairment can be realised by the beneficiaries until the end of regular schooling in high school and until the child reaches 21 years of age.

In case of a child with severe health impairment, the right is realised regardless of the income earned by the beneficiary’s household and amounts to HRK 831.50 (25% of the budget base). The right to child allowance for a child with severe health impairment can be realised by the beneficiaries until the end of the calendar year in which the child reaches 27 years of age.
Beneficiaries who realised the right to child allowance for a child with severe health impairment defined by special regulations until 1 September 2015, and their right did not cease until the sad day, are entitled to child allowance after the child reaches 27 years of age, as long as such severe health impairment exists, while the beneficiaries whose entitlement to child allowance for a child with severe health impairment defined by special regulations has expired until the said date because the child reached 27 years of age, are entitled to child allowance from the date of submitting the application, as long as such severe health impairment exists.
